The Training and Placement Cell

The Training and Placement Cell serves as an interface between the students and the corporate world. It started its activities in 2005 to institutionalize the process of summer training and final placements of the students. An effort has always been made to invite companies with various profiles to suit the requirements of our students looking for jobs in finance, accounting, marketing, sales, computers and research domains.

With an aim to expand the reach across the entire Delhi University, an initiative was taken in the year 2016 to connect to the Placement Cell of other colleges in Delhi University circuit to explore new avenues and generate results.

The Placement Cell also focuses to groom the students into well-rounded leaders who have a strong rooting in functional expertise, a realistic real time understanding of the business and technical world, an action oriented decision making skills and above all high level of ethics and integrity.

Internships act as a window to the corporate world for the students. It is a tool that helps them in making an effortless transition from the intellectual rigor at college to the work ethics of a real organization. The Internship Wing explores various platforms and proffers the best relevant opportunities to the students of all years and courses. Over the years, the college has witnessed an impressive hike in the quality and quantity of internships being offered to the students. Top recruiters for internship include ProcDNA, WTW, Boat, NuvoRetail, Centum by upGrad, Ferns N Petals, Internshala, ZEE Media, Trilogy Innovations, Godrej Properties, NeenOpal, Zigram, Jodo, CaratLane, Fundwave, MeduLance etc..

The Training Department of the Cell lays a foundation for the holistic development of the student. It conducts various workshops and training sessions on topics like Resume Building, Group Discussions, Cracking Guesstimates, How to build a strong LinkedIn Profile etc. that help the students to present themselves confidently and leave a mark of their personality. The department ties-up with institutes that conduct mock interviews that assist the placement aspirants to stay calm, composed and assertive during the interviews.

The Placement Cell has always worked diligently to substantiate the quality of companies coming to the campus so as to provide the best possible corporate exposure to the students. The college has seen the participation of many renowned companies like DE Shaw & Co, Bain & Co, BCG, EY, Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, Wipro, Dell, Grant Thornton, Tresvista, Oxane Partners, Zomato, Airtel etc. These companies cover around 12 of the major sectors which includes Finance, Consulting, Research, Actuaries, Audit, Taxation, Marketing, Business Development and CA articleship. Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, since its inception has been carrying a legacy of young career oriented minds and focused students aspiring to set up a strong base for their successful careers. Understanding the importance of internships, Placement Cell continues to serve as a platform for these young ambitious candidates to get first hand experience. After organizing 6 fairs in the academic sessions 2014-15, 2017-18, 2018-2019, 2019-20, 2021-22 and 2022-23, the 7th Internship Fair which was renamed as Internship Fiesta was organized in online mode by The Placement Cell. It was a two month long event with the participation of more than 900 students from different courses and 92 companies on board for providing internships including Zomato, Namekart, Ferns N Petals, Noise, Ken Research, upGrad, Make A Difference, Aam Aadmi Party, Teach for India, Chegg, CPRG, Internshala, TravClan, Smaaash, PhonePe, etc.

Eligibility rules for participation in placements

The student should be in his/her 3rd year and graduate in the coming year and should be registered with the cell. Students should not have any backlogs in any of the subjects/papers of their respective courses. There is no restriction on applying/appearing in interviews, until the first job is secured. A student selected by a company will be eligible to sit in the next company only if the next company offers a package difference of Rs.1 lakh or more than the previous company in which the job is secured. An exception to the above clause is when a company is offered Dream Slot which implies that all students registered with TPC, even if placed in another company, are eligible to appear for the company which has been offered the dream slot. A student can secure a maximum of 2 offer letters through companies visiting the campus or conducting their drives through the TPC. For the students who have secured Pre – Placement Offer (PPO) in any organization through / with the help of The Training and Placement Cell will be counted as a secured offer letter.

As per the records, during the academic year 2023-24, The highest package witnessed was 23 LPA at DE Shaw & Co. Also the team managed to secure 300+ offer letters in 2023-24, the number of recruiters also increased from 80+ to 90+ the median package was worth 5.2 LPA whereas the average package amounted to 5.3 LPA.
