I completed my class 12th with a background in commerce and mathematics. Although I had little experience with coding, my growing interest in the field led me to pursue it further. Coming from a non-CS background, I faced numerous challenges initially, but the unwavering support from my professors made all the difference. The transition from school to college life was not easy, as the learning approach in college was quite different. I had to start programming from scratch, while many of my peers already had good knowledge about coding. During my first semester, I often wondered how I would grasp the technical terminology, but my HOD, Ms. Vandana Kalra and other professors were incredibly supportive. They patiently addressed each of my doubts, often explaining concepts multiple times in class. By the end of the second semester, I felt confident and began participating in extracurricular activities as I had become more comfortable with all my subjects.
In the middle of my second year, the Computer Science department started conducting workshops and sessions on AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and higher studies. Our professors were not only knowledgeable but also approachable, offering personalized career guidance to every student. My entire college experience was enriching, contributing significantly to my personal and professional development. By the end of the course, the knowledge I had gained helped me secure a job, and I am now working as an AI Engineer at Vionix Bioscience. Overall, my time in college was a transformative journey that prepared me well for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
After completing 12th, owing to my interest in Computers as well as Law, I wanted to pursue a career in Cyber Laws, so I did B.Sc. Computer Science from Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce which helped me understand the basics and create strong foundational knowledge in the field of Computer Science. Studying Computer Science from this college also enabled me in understanding its application in the Cyberspace. The ample opportunities I got during the period of study helped me in getting the real world experience and industrial exposure as well. As a result of the guidance provided in the college, I was further able to complete and deliver several commercial projects of Web and Android Applications as well. Overall, in my experience, studying computer science at SGGGSCC played an instrumental role in laying down the foundation of my career by the providing proper and adequate opportunities along with inculcating in-depth and clear knowledge of the concepts thereby allowing me to further understand and implement them in my further studies and career ahead.
My experiences while studying computer science at SGGSCC had a profound impact in aligning my goals and shaping my career. Transitioning from school to college is both a very important and often a gruesome process for most individuals. But, fitting into the college lifestyle was quite easy for me. Majorly, because of the never-ending support I had of my teachers, my HOD and even the Principal. They really pushed me forward. Our HOD, Ms. Vandana Kalra, guided me into the realm of research and development. The numerous workshops and sessions conducted by the computer science department introduced me to fields beyond our course like Data Mining, Advance Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, that brought in me an urge for research. This eventually led me to pursue Masters in Advanced Computing at Imperial College, London specializing in Machine Learning. After brief stints with Facebook and PwC, I am currently working as a Senior Machine Learning Consultant for an Oxford based Investment Firm.
